Program 02
Youth Leadership
A structured cohort program for young people from Champaran who want to work on local problems with discipline, clarity, and public responsibility.
The need
Rural youth are often treated as beneficiaries, not as builders. They have energy, local knowledge, ambition, and social networks, but many lack training in communication, problem-solving, public systems, leadership ethics, and project execution.
Champaran Foundation sees rural youth as local institution-builders.
The cohort model
The Youth Leadership Program will run as a structured cohort for participants aged eighteen to twenty-eight. The model includes:
- Application and local nomination
- Shortlisting through interviews
- Classroom learning
- Field assignments in home panchayats
- Mentorship sessions
- Public speaking practice
- Local issue mapping
- Team projects
- Final presentation and review
Curriculum
The curriculum will include:
- Public communication
- Local governance basics
- Constitution and citizenship
- Panchayat systems
- Rural development schemes
- Digital tools for public work
- Conflict resolution
- Community listening
- Project planning
- Report writing
- Ethical leadership
Selection process
Participants will be selected through a transparent process that includes application, local reference, interview, and commitment to fieldwork.
The Foundation will prioritise gender balance, representation from different social and economic backgrounds, and seriousness of purpose.
Alumni network
The alumni network is planned as a long-term platform for local leadership, mentorship, volunteer mobilisation, and district-level learning exchange.
Status: Planned for 2026 rollout.
